Technological Breakthrough Two First-of-Their-Kind Procedures Performed Simultaneously

Recently, under the technical guidance of the gastroenterological surgery expert team from Peking University First Hospital, the gastroenterological surgery medical team at Peking University First Hospital Taiyuan Hospital achieved two major technological breakthroughs in a single day: successfully performing the first diagnostic laparoscopic exploration procedure for a patient with cT4 stage gastric cancer, and on the same day, performing the first total laparoscopic distal gastrectomy for a patient with cT3 stage remnant gastric cancer. The performance of these two landmark surgeries marks a new stage for the hospital in the minimally invasive diagnosis and treatment of complex gastrointestinal tumors.

Precise Diagnosis, Solving Complex Cases

Case 1:

For patients with locally advanced gastric cancer, the team innovatively used diagnostic laparoscopic technology to accurately assess tumor staging providing a key basis for developing individualized treatment plans.

Case 2:

Facing patients with remnant gastric cancer whose second surgery was extremely difficult, the team overcame complex situations such as abdominal adhesions, completing precise dissection and digestive tract reconstruction under completely laparoscopic conditions, minimizing trauma.

Innovative Therapy Two-Pronged Approach

During the surgery, the gastroenterological surgery medical team performed the hospital's first intraperitoneal hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC). By using a precise temperature-controlled perfusion system, combining chemotherapy drugs with 43℃ hyperthermia, effectively killing free cancer cells in the abdominal cavity. The implementation of this new technology has made the hospital one of the few medical institutions in the region that simultaneously master complex laparoscopic surgery and HIPEC combined treatment.

Multidisciplinary Support Technological Leadership

This series of surgeries was provided with full technical guidance by the gastroenterological surgery department of Peking University First Hospital. Led by the gastroenterological surgery department, and in collaboration with the anesthesiology department, oncology department, and imaging department to form an MDT team, 3D image reconstruction technology was used preoperatively to plan the surgical path, with precise positioning and delicate operation during the surgery, and postoperative accelerated rehabilitation program to achieve "precise minimally invasive - comprehensive treatment - rapid recovery" full-process management.

Relying on the technical support of the national-level key discipline of Peking University First Hospital, the successful implementation of these three new technologies not only fills the technical gap in this hospital, but also provides a minimally invasive comprehensive treatment plan that is in line with international standards for a large number of gastrointestinal tumor patients. In the future, we will continue to cultivate the field of minimally invasive surgery, using more advanced technology to protect the health of our patients.
